LoCo Motion Pictures is an independent production company based in Toronto, Ontario. The company produces audience-driven content for all platforms with a focus on digital storytelling and also distributes digital productions. Founded in 2013, LoCo Motion Pictures is headed by producer and entertainment lawyer, Lauren Corber. Lauren is an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre's Cineplex Entertainment Producers’ Lab, the NSI’s Totally Television Program, the WIFT-T Development Incubator, and the Bell Media Executive Producer Accelerator Lab.

About Me

Lauren  Corber  is  a  producer,  entertainment  lawyer  and  the  founder/president  of  LoCo  Motion  Pictures.  One  of  Canada's  leading  digital  content  producers, Lauren's  most  recent  series,  International  Emmy  nominated,  How  to  Buy  a  Baby  has  been  named  a  top  web  series  to  watch  by  the  Globe  and  Mail  and  Now  Magazine.  It  premiered  on  CBC  in  November,  2017  and  has  won Best Web Series at the Canadian Screen Awards,  Best Comedy  at  the  Indie  Series  Awards,  Best  Writing  and  Best  Lead  Performance  at  the  International  Academy  of  Web  Television  Awards  and  has  been  invited  to  screen  at  festivals  in  Canada,  the  US,  Asia  and  Europe.  She  also  produced  two  seasons  of  the  CSA  award-winning  CBC  comedy,  My  90-Year-Old  Roommate  starring  Paul  Soles  (Spider-Man)  that  has  over  1  million  views.  

 

 Lauren is in  post  production  on  her  third  series,  children's  production,  Detention  Adventure  for  CBC  Kids.  Up  next  is  digital  comedy  series  The  Communist’s  Daughter,  winner  of  the  Just  for  Laughs  ComedyPro  Stand  Up 'N  Pitch  competition  which  will  commence  production  in  early  2019.  

 

Currently  a  member  of  the  Board  of  Directors  of  the  CMPA,  Lauren  has  been  actively  involved  with  the  organization  for  over  10  years.  Lauren  holds  a  Bachelor  of  Commerce  (McGill)  and  a  Bachelor  of  Laws  (Osgoode).  She  is  an  alumnus  of  the  CFC  Producer's  Lab,  NSI's  Totally  Television  Program,  the  WIFT-T  Development  Incubator  and  the  Bell  Media  Executive  Producer  Accelerator  Lab.

 

 LoCo  has  successfully  received  production  and  development  funding  from  organizations  including  the  CMF,  IPF,  TELUS  Fund,  CBC,  COGECO  and  the  Bell  Fund. Lauren  is  developing  several  projects  including  feature  film,  The  Art  of  Being  Busy  (Telefilm  Canada's  PITCH  THIS!  2016),  drama  series,  New  Wave  (NSI  Totally  Television)  and  comedy  web  series  Hit  On  Me  (pitch  finalist,  Just  for  Laughs  ComedyPro  2017).  

 

Past  productions  include  award-winning  short  films  that  have  screened  around  the  world  including  Emma  (TIFF  2016,  Canada's  Top  10  2016)  and  The  Balcony  Affair  (Locarno  2011).

 

Lauren  was  voted  most  vivacious  by  her  graduating  class  in  high  school  and  has  lived  up  to  it  ever  since.

LoCo is Hiring a Social Media & Marketing Intern

 

LoCo Motion Pictures is an International-Emmy nominated production company specializing in digital and short form content. We take an audience-driven approach to content production and are looking for a social media & marketing intern to join our team. We are looking for someone to apply to the CMPA’s Digital Skills Mentorship Program (please see eligibility criteria below). This is a paid position.

 

You will be involved in developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy to increase our web traffic and our brand awareness for the company and for individual productions. You’ll create engaging content, launch new campaigns, and engage with online communities to create fans, retain relationships, and analyze what’s appealing to our audiences.

 

Qualifications include:

  • University degree or college diploma in communications, digital marketing, marketing, social media, or journalism.

  • In-depth knowledge of social media including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (any other platforms would be an asset)

  • Ability to navigate the social media space and know the tools it takes to post and measure effectively (Hootsuite, Google Analytics).

  • Some graphics design experience / general knowledge of design

  • Knowledge of social analytics and able to gather and analyze data collected and translate into meaningful findings

  • Passion for film and television and comedy

  • Excellent multitasking skills to handle all of our social media accounts in a cohesive way

  • Highly organized with the ability to take initiative

  • Experience shooting and/or editing social videos 

  • Self-starter that enjoys a fast-paced, creative, deadline-driven environment.

  • Keen attention to detail

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Design social media strategies to achieve marketing targets 

  • Manage, create and publish original, high quality content 

  • Administer all company social media accounts ensuring up-to-date content 

  • Liaise with writers to ensure content is informative and appealing 

  • Collaborate with outside public relations team to create social ‘buzz’ regarding new series launches 

  • Facilitate company communication (respond to queries, get reviews and organize chats and Q&A sessions) 

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on web and social media traffic and ROI 

  • Monitor SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimization 

  • Integrate and maintain a cohesive social media strategy 

  • Develop and run social promotions, contests, and campaigns, and track their success (e.g., Facebook Live, Reddit AMA)

  • Develop, maintain, and execute content and promotion calendars. 

  • Explore new opportunities to engage our audience, and adjust with shifting trends and marketplace needs. 

  • create compelling content (videos, animations, graphics, etc.) that entertains our audience and also supports our marketing and company goals.

 

Eligibility:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred

  • Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection

  • Must have completed post-secondary studies

  • Must be unemployed or underemployed (employed below their level of education and/or hold part-time employments)

  • Cannot be enrolled in a full-time educational program

  • Cannot be in receipt of Employment Insurance benefits during the program
